Ontario Highway 7 Project – More Ministry of Transportation Expropriations
The Ontario government has initiated another round of expropriations tied to the Highway 7 expansion between Guelph and Kitchener. Between 2012 to 2015, the Ministry of Transportation expropriated 160 properties for the major infrastructure project. Now, the expropriating authority has applied to acquire additional land in Guelph and Guelph/Eramosa.
The Province has provided limited information to affected landowners with regard to the timing and scope of these property acquisitions. No construction timelines have been made publicly available and Ministry of Transportation officials have declined to disclose further details about the construction of Highway 7. Property owners seeking additional information may wish to review the project’s website at www.newhighway7.ca, which contains project maps, reports, and updates regarding the Highway 7 expansion.
Landowners may be approached by MTO Real Estate Officers to facilitate “pre-expropriation” negotiations. Otherwise, owners can expect to receive formal Notices of Expropriation delivered by registered mail and published in the local newspaper.
